About

Sydney Skye Rowswell is a figurative and portrait painter working from her garden studio in the Bristol area. Sydney works primarily in oil paints and her work depicts real life scenarios. Working from photographs, usually taken herself, Sydney combines elements of the real World with a fun, imaginative colour pallet, creating her contemporary style she calls Real(ish)ism.

“My paintings are a snapshot of the every day. People and animals are my jam, they’re endlessly fascinating to me. Although my style is real(ish), I love to play when I paint- abstracting some elements and using unnatural colour choices. Colour is a very important part of my work- it adds to the context of each piece.

There’s always a story to be told and, for me, the best figurative work tells just part of that story overtly, then encourages the viewer to imagine the rest… it’s cool how this brings the viewer in as a collaborator to the artwork.

My style has evolved a lot in the last year and I am so grateful to have found a way of working that I can’t get enough of.”
